2023 James D. McComas Staff Leadership Seminar
Well folks, just as promised we are coming back better than ever this year. Prepare to have your socks knocked off by a day filled with fun, fellowship, and most of all, a phenomenal learning opportunity. Oh, and let’s not forget to mention an amazing lunch. Mark your calendars for this year’s James D. McComas Leadership Seminar on Wednesday, March 8, in the Squires Commonwealth Ballroom. Doors open at 8:15 a.m., the program begins at 9 a.m., and is scheduled to end at 4:30 p.m. This event will be in-person and streamed. The schedule will be sent upon registration.
The Virginia Tech Staff Senate is excited to announce this year’s speaker, Mrs. Jean White, a consultant with 32 years of experience with FranklinCovey. Her mission and passion continue to be teaching time-tested principles that enable people and organizations to achieve their true potential, make an impact, and achieve results. Her energy is contagious, and her presentations are inspiring, making her one of the most sought-after consultants in the company.
Jean will be presenting a multi-part series on "The Speed of Trust Foundations: Today’s Critical Learnable Competency." Like any other discipline, creating trust is a learnable skill. With high trust, communication, creativity, and engagement improve. Productivity speeds up and costs decrease as attention is redirected toward objectives instead of suspicion and frustration.
Participants will become competent in using the framework, language, and behaviors that lead to high-trust teams and organizations. They will be able to identify and address “trust gaps” in their personal credibility and relationships at work.
We look forward to spending this amazing day with each of you while taking the opportunity for staff betterment.
Serena Young
Staff Senate President
McComas Leadership Chair
